This article about how to create article types in salesforce.Once you enable knowledge user check box on user detail page next create article type by setup-->customize--> knowledge-->article types.

also you can create data categories by setup-->customize-->data categories-->new .Enter group name as packages once you save you can create child categories.salesforce supports up to 5 level deep.finally activate the new category group by click on key image(Active) like this

you can add this category group to roles from setup-->manage users-->roles-->select the role you want to add and expand the category group and add the levels like this

Finally you can control settings of your knowledge user profile like this
